Food Service FAQs
TLC offers around the clock service, so we’re here for you day or night when you have a problem with your furnace. Don’t get left out in the cold, call the heating experts at TLC today.
Does TLC service kitchen equipment (i.e. stoves, fryers, ovens, soda machines, etc.)?
No, our technicians cannot repair your stove, fryers, soda machines, or ovens. However, we can repair the electrical or gas lines that supply power to that equipment.
Does TLC service refrigeration or low-temperature equipment like coolers, reach-ins, freezers, ice machines or walk-ins for restaurants?
Yes, TLC has refrigeration technicians who are licensed to work on low-temperature equipment.
Does TLC service water softeners or water filtration systems for restaurants?
Yes, TLC is an authorized Kinetico dealer in the state of New Mexico. Our plumbers can service all makes and models of commercial water softeners and other water filtration systems.
Does TLC repair commercial water heaters or boiler if so what brands and models?
Yes, we have dedicated commercial plumbers licensed to work on all makes and models of water heaters and boilers in restaurants and food service businesses. We service and repair brands like AO Smith, Bradford White, and GE.
Should I get my drains cleaned periodically and if so, how often?
Yes, we always recommend preventive maintenance. You should get your drains cleaned on your terms, not when an emergency happens especially in the restaurant and food industry. We typically recommend quarterly drain maintenance but depending on size and how busy the business it, it can vary. We recommend a free site visit from one of our drain experts to give you our best recommendations.
I have a smell periodically coming from my floor drains. Does this mean they are clogged?
Yes, they can be clogged or partially clogged, and sewer gas is coming up through the drain. However, in most cases drain enzymes can eliminate the smell. As bio matter (any food or food byproduct) goes into a drain, small particles stick to the side of the pipe. Those particles will start to decay and smell as bacteria grows. Drain enzymes are a good bacterium and will eat up their foul-smelling counterparts. Enzymes (with continued use) will break down food particles and grease, keeping your drain lines fresh and clean. You can purchase drain enzymes from TLC.
Does TLC service and repair HVAC equipment for restaurants and food service businesses?
Yes, TLC has commercial HVAC technicians licensed and experienced in commercial HVAC systems. We can repair, replace, and maintain your restaurant’s heating and air conditioning system.
Do I need ground fault protection for my electrical equipment and employees? What type of protection is best?
Yes, ground fault protection will safeguard all equipment and employees from any hazards that can arise from electricity. GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter), AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) breakers and receptacles offer the best protection from electrical hazards as well as making sure all equipment and devices have a proper ground conductor.
Why are weatherproof gaskets in J-boxes needed to avoid grease buildup?
Weatherproof gaskets are important to have because they seal off the potential grease buildup in electrical outlets that can cause problems in the circuit. Problems that can happen include short cutting the circuit, electrical shock, or an electrical fire.
What happens if I overload the circuit?
There are a lot of electrical needs in a restaurant, if you overload the circuits and do not have the correct wiring this could cause light fixtures or wiring to melt which can result in an electrical fire.
